Last Saturday October 5th, the Gothia Men's C team started the season in Trollhättan. As usual, we faced the home team (Trollhättan B) and Ravens team from Göteborg. Having many new players from the tryouts, we were excited to test our abilities in the first match situations. The squad consistent of Abe (S), Erik (S), Ross (OP), Chen (OP), Andre (MI), Henrik (MI), Adam (MI), Chao (OH), Jacob (OH), Ali (OH), Georgios (L) and Aris (L).
First match was against Trollhättan B that had many new players in the team. We started slightly nervous and very quite not finding our team spirit yet. Still, we had strong serves and put pressure with nice attacks. The match went well and we won 3:0 thanks to the pressure and benefiting from good free ball control. MVP of match was Jacob who reflected on the match: "Den här säsongen är laget på en bra nivå, jag hoppas att alla kämpar mer när vi fortsätter i toppen av tabellen."
Second match, we played against Ravens. Our energy level was much higher in this game and we started out strong. A few more mistakes on our side and stronger defense on the other side, made this match a fight especially in set 2. We still prevailed and won 3:0. Unfortunately, our middle Andre got injured with a twisted ankle on a court invasion (we wish him a fast recovery!). On libero position, Aris from the D team was helping out this day and showed great fighting spirit and some amazing saves winning MVP straight out of the gate.
The match from Aris perspective: "Overall I think we did a great job keeping the energy up by cheering for each other. I also think it was really good that everyone kept playing until the ball was dead, and I felt like everyone did their best. However, at times I feel like we were too focused on their mistakes, like whether they touched the net or if the ball was out. This caused us to lose focus I think. The other team's defense was also much better in the second match, and I think we could've improved by focusing more on placing the ball rather than just using power."
Great start of the season!
