Dam A vs. Kungälv & Ljungby B

Congratulations to Damer A who started 2020 with two wins out of two!

Gothia 3-1 Kungälv (25-23, 25-20, 17-25, 30-28)
Gothia 3-1 Ljungby B (25-6, 20-25, 25-14, 25-16)

Despite only one-and-a-half training sessions and several players yet to return from the winter break, Gothia put on a superb show of teamwork against two well-coached opponents.

In an evenly fought match against Kungälv, the players showed the strength of their mentality and togetherness to step up a gear at the most crucial moments, including a nail-biting finish to the match going all the way to 30-28 in the fourth set to ensure we took all three points from the game. Setter Alessia showed excellent game management to keep the team running as an effective attacking machine, while player of the match was Emilia for consistent and relentless kills from the outside hitter position.

In the second match against Ljungby, circumstances dictated an even smaller squad, with our two middles Tina and Tilda obliged to play in every point of both matches. Impressively, they never looked tired and in fact continued to dominate at the net more and more throughout. The entire team played near-perfect volleyball in the first set to restrict Ljungby to only six points. Despite a slight lapse in concentration in the second set and beginning of the third, we managed to find that level again to finish off the match in style. Lisanne, playing as libero in sadly her last match for Gothia, put in a magnificent performance leading the defence and providing consistently excellent passing. Isidora with her absolutely impressive and consistent kills and a stable point in the team's defence contributed to the victory. The player of the match was Linnea (opposite) who in both matches attacked with great intelligence, always placing the ball into empty court to make a multitude of kills.

Every single player deserves to be proud of how they performed both individually and for the team, particularly since this was the first matchday after a few weeks off. We aim to build on this great start to 2020 and keep training hard to push for the top of the table! 💪🦁

Our next meeting is on February 2 with fellow top 3 challengers Alingsås and Eneryda, a crucial encounter that could end up deciding who will be Division 2 champions!
