Dam A goes from strength to strength!

Saturday saw a busy day of volleyball at Idrottshögskolan with six teams converging to play fixtures in Division 2.
Gothia Damer faced Ymer B and local rivals KFUM B, and they put in superb performances to win both matches and take the maximum 6 points on offer.
With a tough derby match to follow in the evening, the first match against Ymer B was an excellent opportunity to give starting places to some players who hadn’t previously started matches. And they really took the chance to show that Gothia’s squad is packed throughout with quality! The team quite simply blew away Ymer in the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-11. Ymer fought back in the third set by strengthening with some players from their Division 1 team, and claimed a close set, 26-24. It would be the only set Gothia lost all day, as they responded in kind by bringing in fresh players to powerfully close out the fourth set, 25-21. The players’ player of the game was Linnea Morgan who put in an awesome all-round performance as spiker.
The match everyone was looking forward to, the local derby against KFUM B, didn’t disappoint. Both teams brought strong hitters and well-trained defence and every set was closely fought until around 17 points each. But time and time again Gothia were able to find an extra gear to outplay their opponents. With superb reception throughout the match, big blocks, well-placed serves, energetic defence and of course the relentless power in attack that is becoming their trademark, Gothia put in a magnificent performance to win 26-24, 25-17, 25-17.
The match was sadly the last for Katka Černa who has been a driving force for some years in both our parent club Tuve VK and these young days of Gothia Volley. It was very fitting that it was her spike that won match point in the crunch match against KFUM and earned her player of the game. We want to thank Katka for everything she has put into the club - we will all miss her and hope she returns to Göteborg and Gothia in the future!
The day’s results mean that after six matches played Gothia maintains its place in the top 3 of the table, on equal points with the teams in first and second and separated only by one set difference! It promises to be a tightly contested and exciting season as we continue to work hard and challenge for the top spot.
