A wildly hot Saturday

On another wildly hot Saturday, Plebs made the trip down to Stockholm to play the mighty Exiles, who fell to the rising Uppsala Plebs only a week before up at Fyrisfjädern. Credit to Exiles, that was a costly victory for Plebs who through battered and injured bodies, a number of players with other commitments meant Uppsala travelled with a much changed lineup for the rematch. Special tough guy points have to go to Munsterman Joss, who not only played reminiscent of a young Bull Hayes, he did that with a hernia! It was that inspired tenacity and willingness to take the field that built a wave of confidence which Plebs converted into 6 points within the first 25. A tight and tough affair, as these clásico matches tend to be, valiant effort and desire took us as far as it could and once it became clear that the tape that held ankles and bodies together start to give; it was only going to go one way.
It’s a tough ask for any team to play 4 games in a row, especially against 3 very physical teams, but this is not an excuse, all teams have the same schedules to play. This is a reflection of how far Plebs have come as a team that it took wear and tear to intervene as opposed to an under drilled and under prepared team. Plebs kept themselves in the game, but several scrums eventually turned into a penalty which Exiles used to their advantage and scored a try - it started to take the game away, even though the boys carried valiantly and worked tirelessly to secure their own ruck, tackles flying like a bunch of drunks making a beeline to the bar one second before last orders. This lead Exiles to exploit some expanding weaknesses in the fatigues and bruised defensive line. It’s not often you have to have a forward playing 12 but that’s the position Plebs found themselves in. This is the beauty of rugby, playing for the jersey and playing where you are needed. With an expanding scoreline by the home team, the boys never stopped trying and that’s what turns a regular player into a special player. Captains player of the game went to Carlos who is improving every week and man of the match to Jack for his relentless work around the park for the duration of the game.
