Tale of two halves

It was a warm summer's day in Gubbängen, and the men's team was up against Hammarby Rugby, looking to put things right from the loss the weekend before. Things started well for the Uppsala men from the kick-off, as some poor ball retention from the home team at the ruck allowed Uppsala to pounce and secure possession. The resulting passage of play almost saw Uppsala going in for a try in the corner, but some good counter-rucking by the home side saw the ball turned over and cleared upfield. A lack of clinicality defined much of the half for Uppsala, who, despite some good field position at times, were unable to capitalize and put points on the board. This was in contrast to Hammarby, who, with some precise kicking and strong running lines, scored a flurry of tries without response from the Plebs. The score was 31-0 as half-time approached before Uppsala got into gear, with a sweeping backs move that saw Max McKinnon go over for the men's first try in the corner. The resulting conversion was narrowly missed, but now Uppsala had a base to build on in the second half. And build on it they did!
The second half was much improved as the work the team put into their attacking structures really started to pay dividends and put Hammarby on the back foot for large parts of the second half. Tries from James Oakley and Wilhelm Hultin saw Uppsala pull closer to Hammarby, but unfortunately, too much damage had been done, and they ultimately came up short. The final score of 31-17 is unfortunate, but the Plebs can hold their heads up high knowing that, despite the result, they can take many positives into next week's game against Exiles B and use those as a foundation to build on.
