Energetic team picture after the matches

Gothia B ladies had their last home match day last Sunday 06/03 having Karlstad B and VK Block as guests in Valhalla hallen C here in Göteborg. Our squad consisted of Frederica, Matilda, Eva, Caroline, Maria, Merima, Hannah, Linnea and for the second game Tina helping us out.

Our first game against Karlstad B deemed to become an exciting one as they had some new players since we faced them last time. Their young team also improved a lot in strong spin and float serves that were a challenge for our receivers. We started falling back but could rely on strong serves from our side - standing out the strong jump serves by one of our players of the match Matilda throughout the entire match. We came back and pulled away towards the end of set 1 winning this 25:22. In the second and third set, the hard serves from the other side became more and more an issue and we had some nervousness sink in the more of them we missed. We kept up until the end of both sets but could not take advantage of being better organized and stronger in attacking. The second and third sets were lost 20:25 and 19:25, respectively. So, the fourth set became a final one and just like last match day, we were able to pull it together and thanks to consistent strong sets by our other player of the match - Hannah, we were able to make many points in attacks. It was super tight until the very end and we made a leap for it winning 26:24. The second time this season entering into a 5th set, we stayed quite calm and focused knowing that every point counts. Pulling away a few points but getting caught again at 13:13, it was a nail-biting thriller until the last point. We managed to make the last deciding points and won 15:13 at the end.

After a break where Karlstad B played VK Block winning decisively 3:0 again thanks to strong serves and decent game play, we had our second match of the day. VK Block coming from the not so far city of Alingsås is a young team with some good potential. However, also our serves were a challenge and carried us through the match. We pulled away early in set 1 and managed to get a 10 point lead that we secured until the end winning this set 25:14. The second set was similar decisive with strong serves and attacks on both wings from our spiker Eva and opposite Linnea (both players of the match). We won the second set 25:11 going confidently in the third set. Maybe a bit too much confident and a strong attempt to come back made this set more exciting when VK Block managed to stay close until the middle of the set. Two strong serve sequences towards the end made us pull away again and win 25:17 at the end.

Happy that we won both matches, this day ended being thankful to the supporters from the public and everyone helping us out to make this home match possible. Our next game is away on Saturday next weekend in Örebro.
