Rapport från Madeira by Viki

I carefully remove a branch with thorns embedded in my shin and continue to run. We've just spent over 2 hours digging, crawling, and mingling through brambles, bushes, and other prickling vegetation. Simon and Lena are in an encouragingly positive mood, so/and I'm really glad I have them here with me. A drizzle starts again, but fortunately, I'm not freezing anymore.
After two and a half hours since the decision to turn back, we're safe again in the car - muddy, scratched, exhausted, but also proud of ourselves that we made it.This was my first long run in Madeira.
Undoubtably unforgettable, but then the truly pleasant times were yet to come. That afternoon, the Czech group arrived, and over the following days, we did some long morning runs . This time our laufs offered sunny weather and whimsical, picturesque views of the island. In the afternoons, we mainly rested and prepared for upcoming training sessions, continuing, not feeling too weathered, with a jog, strides, drills or brief strength training. Half way through the stay, Csilla and Florian joined us and, at the end of the week, we participated in local races including WRE.
I enjoyed my days immensely, we had the chance to do many high-quality trainings in warm weather, experiencing Madeira’s unique environment and trying fruits from local production. We climbed an enormous number of meters in elevation, though unfortunately, we didn't reach the highest peak, located over 1300m above sea level, due to trail closure. But that might be our motivation to come back and try again!
All in all, I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to train there. It was a welcome change in our winter preparations for the upcoming season, so I hope we will have a lot of successful races over the year. Special thanks to the club for support and to Lena for taking care of our tired muscles and bodies.
See you at 10mila at the latest!
