Last weekend, we traveled down to Lund with a slim squad consisting of 5 original players, plus Daniel Persson, who made a comeback and boosted the team in the middle blocker position. Lund fielded some new players who were not part of the squad in the first meeting in November, a game which ended 3-1 in favor of Gothia.

In the first set, we struggled to finish plays, and in combination with uncoordinated blocking, Lund quickly took control and won the first set 25-22.

In the second set, we dared to be more aggressive in the offense, which paid off greatly, and we took the lead by several points. We maintained this lead for a good portion of the set, and it almost felt decided. Unfortunately, several silly mistakes towards the end of the second set allowed Lund to catch up and overtake, winning the set 26-24 and extending their lead to 2-0.

In the third set, we tried to regroup and come back, but the significant loss in the second set put too much pressure on us. Again, there were mistakes in blocking, and Lund fought hard in defense and managed to dig our attacks. Lund comfortably won the third set 25-21.

To sum up, we didn’t play a bad game. We had good reception, but it didn’t quite reflect our usual strength in sideouts with good receptions. The major issue was the blocking and the sync between our wing spikers and new middle blockers. Once that’s in place, we’ll be really strong. Now we have two weeks of preparation before our next match against the top team, Habo B, which will be played on Sunday, February 11th in Gothenburg.
