Elitserien 22/23

🔹 Season 22/23 is ’just’ a start.
🔹 Goal is to keep our spot in Elitserien and establish ourselves in the league for many years to come.
🔹 Finish somewhere in the middle in the table, qualify to the play-off, and not risk a ‘play down’.
🔹 B team to qualification to Division 1.
( 🟰cannot borrow/move players from B team to elite.)
🔹 Focus on our future, our kids and youth to develop the clubs future.
🔸💭DREAM GOAL 1 - Beat one of the 3 top teams from 21/22 season.
🔸💭DREAM GOAL 2 - Qualify for the GRAND PRIX 🏟️.

Those were the goals 🥅 in the beginning of the season.

Who could have predicted such an unprecedented start in our premiere in Elitserien. 🚀

The season started with 5️⃣ wins in a row, before a ‘slight road bump’ 🚧 ⚠️ 🤓 on the way, Örebro and Engelholm, both showed why they are two of the top teams.

After half season, 🔟 played matches, 8️⃣ won, 2️⃣ lost.. It was clear that Göteborg qualified to Grand Prix 🏟️ 🥳🎉.

A revenge-hungry Göteborg was close to an upset ‼️ in the semifinals when again facing Örebro, but had to see ourselves defeated in a 5️⃣ set ‼️ match. 😮🤩

The GP-bronze🥉match against Linköping, with a decimated squad, we only had fumes left in the tank. We gave it our all.. we gave EVERYTHING we had in the first GP game, the day before, and took Örebro to a decisive 5th set.

We were somewhat aware that the spring would be a bit trickier. And as predicted, it got significantly tougher 😅, but that’s 🆗. It made it so much more important to go back and look at our goals 🥅 that were set in the beginning of the season.

We ended up in 5th at the end of the regular season 🤩! And then it was time for the playoffs in the Swedish Championship.

We drew Linköping in the first stage of the post-season bracket - who proved to be too much. Started out strong in a 5 set in Game 1 at home, but playing on a weekday 3 hours away didn’t make Game 2 any easier. Our season ended in 3 straight defeats in the quarterfinals of the Swedish Championship. Regardless of how disappointing it might feel to lose, we accomplished our goals for the season. In fact, we accomplished even more.

For us, this means that the season is finished, and we’re now already planning for next season. Already writing new goals and ambitions for season 23/24 ✍️.

With that being said..

IN GÖTEBORG VOLLEY’S PREMIER SEASON IN ELITSERIEN:

✅ We kept our spot in Elitserien
✅ Ended the season 5th place in the table and qualified for the playoffs.
✅ Our Elite players and Elit coach squad helping out as coaches and assistant coaches for our youth players and our ULL (Unga Ledare Läger).
✅ B team qualified to DIVISION 1.
✅ 💭 Won the first match against season 21/22 winners and swedish champions.
✅ 💭LAST BUT NOT LEAST.. WE MADE IT TO GRAND PRIX 🏟️!🥳

Although our goals were team oriented, it was also great to have two players receive individual recognition from the league - 🏅Hanah Blume & 🏅Taylor Bruns were named to the Season Dream Team as best outside and best setter. 🏅Taylor also was honored as Player of Year. This reflects not only on their hard work, but on the amazing support they had around them from the team, coaching staff, and club to succeed!

It’s been difficult, it’s been tough, but most of all, it’s been a dream 🤩 to compete in our inaugural season in Elitseries!

Around the elite squad there are a lot of people working hard to make our goal possible. Preparing, planning, working hard during the home matches, escore sheet, data volley, speakers, ball rollers…. You name it! We want to thank 🙏 every single one of you! This would not have been possible without you! Thanks!
