Information for New Players
ESIK football section aims at providing its members with the possibility of keeping physically active using training within a competitive football team. To make training meaningful and enjoyable for everyone, we are trying to deliver thought-through training sessions to prepare a relatively high-performing team. For that matter, we are also trying to keep a balance between the requirements of football competence and inclusiveness.
From April to October we train outdoors weekly. From the middle of October to March/April depending on the weather, we train indoors once or twice a week. Additional tournaments and social events are encountered on the way.
If someone wants to join our team, we usually invite them for a couple of tryouts, where we get to know each other and find out the ambitions of the new player (some just want to kick a ball once in a while, some want to keep physically active, some want social interactions within a community, some want to play competitive football in the "core" team, etc.). After the training trials, and if there is interest in joining the team, our team leaders should be able to place the newcomer in a suitable group.
To train with the ESIK football team you have to:
- Respect Fair Play: Be nice, and show respect for your team and the opponents.
- Be a full ESIK member: Pay the annual ESIK membership in EricssonForMe (benify.se) and indicate "football" as your desired ESIK section (Nb, This also includes access to other ESIK sections, beyond football, like bowling, basketball, skiing, etc.)
Among the active members, we have around 35 players considered as the "core team". These players become the base for the team that competes in the 7-a-side league. To be part of the core team you have to, in addition to the previous points, be:
- Committed to the training and coming on time (it might be difficult for many of us due to work, family, holidays, etc. However, we respect each other's time and always try our best to be there for the team)
- Have some football skills and experience (we are not talking Messi skills, but good basics, like ball control, passing, thinking, tackling, positioning, playing in a team, etc.)
- Physically fit (not Ronaldo fit, but at least you should be able to run for half an hour without getting a heart attack ;) )
- Football is a contact sport and can be a little bit rough sometimes. It is then important to be able to manage your temper. (Remember that you are an ambassador for Ericsson on the pitch!)
