Information about Konståkningsskolan
Figure skating school is the first step to learn the elements of figure skating in order to be able to compete. Figure skating school is 12 occasions on Saturdays with ice and off ice training. At the end of the term in order to show the new skills the children learnt during the term everyone participates in an ice show for all parents to come and see.
At figure skating school we continue practising the elements from skating school and the “leo-märken” but the focus is on elements and the basics that are needed to develop figure skating skills and in order to be able to compete.
Equipment
We are not able to provide any equipment.
To be able to learn the basics the children need figure skating skates. We recommend buying a pair of skates from a figure skating shop. The skates at the common sport store don’t give enough support for the foot or ankle that is needed for figure skating. The skate shoe needs to be tightly attached to the foot and the blade needs to be sharp.
The child still needs a helmet made for ice skating, gloves and warm, tight but stretchy clothes on the ice.
For the off-ice practice sport clothes, sport shoes, skipping rope and a water bottle are required. We are outside even during the winter and it is important to have clothes for all weather types. Remember that the off-ice practice is just as important as the ice training. During the off-ice we practise to improve our figure skating skills, but also improve cardio and strength.
As a caregiver to children in figure skating school you are required to help create a good environment at the rink and help KKS during some of our different arrangements.
