A long summary of an eventful day:

The yr.no forecasted rain before the actual fox hunt. However, the rain gods had a different plan. It was raining cats and dogs during the hunt.

Erik S notched up the top spot even though he went looking for the fox at foot of the hill while the foxes were mostly at the top of the hill. Robert jumped the sequence of taking the optimal path and it probably costed the top spot.

Lars Q was very happy on notching up the 3rd spot. While Bengt's battery did not live up for the last fox. He could have troubled the 3rd spot winner, as the last two foxes were very close to each other. Ingvar managed all the foxes. Joel did perform well, given that he is on and off the fox hunting sessions. We hope he comes more often. Jens and Richard were new comers for this sport. However, they were well acquainted with their regular orienteering skills and wanted to try with the radio. Keerthi and Rahul also found it difficult under these rainy conditions.

It was a little tricky with the 3 level attenuator of the radio receivers. Personally, I find these old 3 level receivers a little challenging. I think, they must be difficult for the beginners. Also, for the new comers, I have found that giving all the instructions well beforehand overwhelms them, and they most likely don't show up. So, this time I thought of giving them the instructions before the event. But then a few of them did not show up, as it was too much to learn a new sport at the last minute, and the not so inviting weather conditions kept them away.
It seems hard as to when to provide instructions for the new-comers. One option that most of them liked/enjoyed, was providing them with a cheat sheet.

The theives broke-in Robert's car glass window while I went to shop for bananas. I lost all my radio orienteering gear, my favourite superfox receiver, expensive head lamp and the moskov compass. Hence, I used Erik A's custom built receiver which was very useful, as it had a variable attenuator and the sound level could be well adjusted to adjusted to one's ears. However, it was too small for my hand, especially when I needed to press the button for direction finding, which was at an uncomfortable height. Just that the button needs to be placed at some other place on the receiver.

I really enjoyed laying out the foxes, and I am hopeful that everyone enjoyed the hunt, even though we had some unfortunate events. Ingvar comment on keeping the total distance around 4kms is very good for the hunt. This time I did manage that and I think everyone enjoyed it. It was fun to put nearly all the foxes in a straight line from the starting position, which made bearings very interesting and confusing (probably some interference). I hope, I can organize the fox-hunt for next year. Perhaps, we would need to find another spot for parking!
