Learning opportunity

Tomorrow the team travels to Örebro to play our fourth and final match up against this top team in the Eliteserien. Every time we’ve faced Örebro, we’ve been challenged to raise our level of volleyball to try to stay with them. They are always a very strong serving and attacking team with a solid all around game.
The last time we played in Örebro the team struggled adjusting to the court itself. The very high ceilings and gym size affected our serving and reception. Therefore for tomorrow’s game we are going to try and focus on a strong consistent serve and reception and not let the physical space hinder our game.
As always, when facing a top team, we have to take the game as a learning experience. There are always positives to be drawn no matter what the outcome. The team has been training a lot of new attacking options, so trying to implement these into a real game situation is one of those positives. Once we’ve tried them in a game setting, it’ll only keep getting better with time. Therefore another focus of ours will be to utilize our middle and right side attack a bit more consistently, and try and run a faster offense.
With only six games left in our journey in the Eliteserien, the team is still learning, developing, and with time hopefully going to achieve our first victory.

Yesterday’s game in Örebro was a relatively positive game despite the 3-0 loss. As anticipated, Örebro was very strong. Their setter ran a very fast, beautiful offense, that clearly showed the difference in levels of the two teams. However, we had an exceptionally strong defensive day, and managed to dig up a lot of balls given the one on one situations they often found themselves in. As always, we competed very well with them during the first set. We managed to stay with them for the most part, and achieved a 25-19 finish. Örebro certainly had to fight to keep us from getting ahead of them.
The team surpassed our serving expectations with only two serving errors throughout the game. This was a great improvement since our last match in their deceivingly bothersome hall. Our reception also improved from the last time, however this is certainly where we struggled to generate any sort of flow to our own game. So it will continue to be a big focus for us in training as we move forward in the next few weeks.
Lastly, Per did an exceptional job coaching yesterday, as every time he called a strategic timeout to try and stop their serving runs, Örebro ended up missing their serves! This alone managed to earn us 4 points over the match! “Coach points” are always appreciated!!
