New year, new beginning

First and foremost, Happy New Year to all of our fans, supporters, and club members!
2017 was the start to something very exciting for the Degerfors club, and here’s to bigger and better things for 2018! Thank you as always for your continued support, we hope to bring you some positive results during this new year.
Kicking off the second half of season, the team travels to Linköpings Sunday. The last time we faced them the team did quite well and almost pushed it to a fifth set. Where we struggled to achieve this was in the quality of reception. Therefore our main focus will be to concentrate on our first contact, and putting ourselves into a strong position to set a variety of attacks.
The team has also been working on connecting a bit more with our middle attackers. The team often falls into a predictable pattern which puts our hitters up against a full block, which isn’t always easy to score on. Establishing the middle as a real threat will also be very important if we want a fighting chance with Linköpings.
Moving into 2018 the team is leaving behind any lack of confidence and just having real fun playing the game. The last game of 2017 was perhaps our best performance of the year, and that was exactly how we achieved it. The main goal for this game will be to take one set from them. If we can take one, we can certainly take two!

Not the beginning we would’ve liked to have had, but some positive elements to the game. The team had to shake a bit of the rust off during the first two sets against Linköpings, which unfortunately shouldn’t have been the case. Collectively as a whole, the team made a lot of unforced errors. Errors such as hitting out, missing serves, not covering the attack, and so forth. The girls didn’t seem to have the same intensity or drive to win, which also hurt the outcome.
However, there were some positive elements throughout. The reception was very strong which was our focus going into the match. This allowed our setters a variety of attacking options. We were able to run our middle a bit more which made us a little less predictable. The team also dug deep in the third set after being down two, and finally gave Linköpings a run for their money. We maintained control throughout the entire thing, played as we know how, and unfortunately just missed taking the set by two points. Finishing in a 27-25 loss. Edyta and Emma both came in from the bench in a positive manner which helped the team find what we were lacking in the first two sets.
The team always seems to have one really great set in every game we play, and it’s time to find a way to maintain that throughout the entirety of the game. We all know we are capable of good volleyball - it is keeping the mental focus and concentration on performing our own jobs, while working together as a team.
