Come one, come all! First home game of the Elitserien!

The long awaited arrival of our first home game in the Elitserien is finally upon us! Degerfors faces off against Linköping Sunday at 15:00 in Stora Vallahallen. No matter what the outcome - a very interesting game surely awaits!!
Linköping is the other new team to move up into the Elitserien this season. So a true battle is to be expected. When we faced off against Linköping in the pre-season, we didn't have all of our players at the tournament. So we're hoping to catch our opponents off guard.
Since our game against Engelholm, the team has been working very hard on serving and receiving. The goal for this game is to have a better quality reception, so that we can utilize all of our attackers. The second goal is to reduce our unforced errors. We made far too many against Engelholm. By eliminating our own direct mistakes, the team will have a much better fighting chance to pull out a win.
The club has been tirelessly working around the clock in preparation for this event. So we strongly encourage everyone to come down to Stora Vallahallen on Sunday to support Degerfors Orion!

Thinking back on today's match it is very difficult to pinpoint exactly what went wrong. Going into the game, the goal was to have a strong reception. And we certainly did. Our three primary passers, Andrea, Mackenzie and Julie, held down the reception very successfully against Linköpings' tough float serves. So once again, the week's reception specific training paid off. Yet despite this great reception we still managed to find ourselves in a 3-0 loss.
Most of the first set was flawless. The team had a really great energy and really took Linköpings by surprise. Fueled by the amazing 350 fans cheering the team on, the team played like never before. Degerfors led the entire set and even found themselves with an 18-9 lead!!! However with a strategic substitution by Linköpings coach, and two direct mistakes made by the referee in Linköpings' favor, the momentum shifted and our opponents managed to claw their way back in. Unfortunately the set ended 25-23 for them.
Going into the second set, it was hard to deny that there was a huge let down felt by the team. In volleyball leading any team by 9 points and then losing is hard to swallow. The team began to make a lot of direct mistakes, and lost the positive energy that was felt in set one. Although the team managed to slowly come back by the end of the set, it wasn't enough to make the difference. The final score ended at 25-19.
In the third set, the team managed to dig deep and find the fight in them once again. The game was tight the whole way through, but once again Degerfors managed to shoot themselves in the foot with our own stupid errors. Linköpings kept the pressure on and managed to score when we couldn't. Although Degerfors came out really well, and played well in moments, the team needs to learn how to close out a set and remain focused the entire way through. The loss today is quite disappointing, because maybe winning the game wasn't possible, but taking a set truly was.
The team travels to Örebro on Wednesday for our next match, so until then, reducing our own unforced errors is our next focus. Thank you very much to all the people who worked very hard at preparing this first home game, and to all the fans that came out to supports us. We hope to see you again at our next home game Saturday October 21st!
