Last night’s game against Lindesberg was a very surprising match.  Upon starting the game, we learnt a few distasteful details about the way Lindesberg was speaking about us as a team.  Not only was it disrespectful, but it was completely classless.  No matter what position a team finds themselves in the standings, it never makes it right to tear them down.  So with this upsetting information, we were fueled with a real drive to make them eat their words.  

Lindesberg made it known that they were going to easily beat us 3-0 with their “B team.”  They were going to treat the game as a practice, that would be a quick and easy win.  Yet, we didn’t allow them to have their “easy practice with their B team.”  We came out with a fire and drive that we have yet to have throughout this entire season.  We commanded the entire first set and came out with the win.  The team really came together and had an outstanding performance.  Makenzie was completely unstoppable, and forced their coach to put in his “A team,” since the quick and easy 3-0 was evident it wasn’t in the cards.  

Lindesberg’s “A team” served a lot stronger and managed to find a lot more consistency to their game then we did throughout the next three sets.  And although they walked away victorious from this match, at least we can walk away with our heads held high that we aren’t just a team to be taken as a joke or insulted publicly.  We can walk away from the game with honor and class which is worth a lot more then a win in a volleyball game.  

Sure everyone knows that the Degerfors team is having a difficult debut in the Eliteserien.  Nobody could foresee that our setters were going to up and quit on us, and leave us with an even harder road to venture down.  But what many fail to recognize is that everyone has to start somewhere.  And despite all of the losses, this team works extremely hard.  The girls deserve the respect that we show to everyone else, and the credit for keeping our heads held high and continually showing up and fighting.  

So we thank all of you who have continued to support us despite the standings.  We thank all of our opponents and coaches who have treated us with respect because we are volleyball players no matter how many losses we have.  And we thank the Degerfors club who had the foresight, drive, and sacrifice to have us playing in this Eliteserien, even though they knew it would be a difficult first year.  Although the road ahead won’t get any easier, we truly appreciate the people who love this game as much as we do and keep things classy.
