New month and new beginnings

Wednesday night a new opportunity presents itself for the Degerfors team. At 19:00 the girls meet a lower ranked, Sollentuna. Despite what the rankings say, the girls know they will need to bring their A-game to achieve a win.
Unlike many of the teams we've played so far, Sollentuna doesn't have the same height advantage as the others. We won't always be up against a 1,85 block or more! This presents different attacking opportunities that aren't always possible against the very big Örebro's or Engelholm's of the league. The team will need to have a very strong foundation with reception and defense to allow our new setters an easier way in distributing the ball.
Strong serving will also be imperative for this match, as this has been the way we've managed to compete in particular sets against stronger opponents. Getting Sollentuna out of system right off the first contact is the main strategy in getting a win. When they don't have a great first contact, their game becomes a lot more readable, and will allow our block and defense to move accordingly. The team will need to focus on minimizing our own direct mistakes while still taking a risk serve.
Over the past 6 games despite the many highs and lows we've encountered, the team seems to be constantly learning from our mistakes and taking steps forward. We have seen that we are capable of leading sets, but finally closing them out will now be the main focus. Maintaining a 3-4 point lead and actually keeping it, really needs everyone's full concentration and determination. Everyone is very eager to finally earn a win, as Sollentuna will be as well. The game will no doubt be a very tough battle between these two teams, but for now we will do everything we can to gain confidence and come out victorious.

Very hard loss

A much stronger feeling then disappointment still lingers after the loss against Sollentuna last night. The team largely had the capabilities to win this game, and yet once again, let the opportunity pass them by. Why though? Why has to be the question that everybody is asking themselves - the players, the coaches, the fans... After much contemplation, one of the biggest issues we can't ignore, is the mental strength of the team. Even bigger then the setters suddenly quitting on the team, leaving the girls to pick up the pieces and figure out a new way to work, the confidence isn't there. An amazingly strong and dynamic team enters the first set, demonstrating their ability to win regardless of the situation; in a flash disappears when the other team pushes back. The moment when the going gets tough, doubt and fear set in. All of the hours of preperation and game scouting go out the window due to this lack of confidence. And this ultimately will keep being the reason for the losses unless we find a way to overcome this problem.
Volleyball is a game of errors. The team that makes fewer mistakes prevails. Volleyball is also a game of confidence. If you do not play with it, you will undoubtedly make even more errors. Unfortunately the team has been plagued with some bad luck which has certainly impacted our confidence. But regardless of that luck - the show must go on. Too many people have given up way too much to get this team to where it is now, and it is more then our duty to ensure it isn't for nothing.
The team played an amazing first set demonstrating that we are capable of being a good team. But all of the energy and positivity faded right after that win. The game plan assigned to the team stopped being followed, and the moment Sollentuna had a three point lead it appeared to be an insurmountable task to catch back up. The team needs to learn how to dig deep and fight with true passion and belief that we are capable of winning. There is no room for doubt or fear, and the team needs to find a sense of confidence together.
Once again, we thank everyone for their continuous support on our journey in the Eliteserien. It is now time to turn the page from this game, and look forward to the next time we face Sollentuna.
