First season game Degerfors vs. Engelholm

Degerfors' exciting debut into the Eliteseries is finally upon us, and undoubtedly a tough welcome into the season awaits. The team travels to Engleholm this Sunday to face off against their first opponent in the Eliteseries, last years Swedish champions - Engelholm.
It is no surprise that winning this match will be very difficult. Engelholm has set their sights on becoming this years Swedish champions once again, so they will certainly be prepared to start the season off strong. Going into this game, the goal isn't a victory. Of course that is always what we would like, but realistic expectations must be set.
The past few weeks we've been working very hard on our blocking and defence system, and properly implementing this is goal number 1. We suspect that Engelholm will be a strong offensive team, so staying low in defence, digging balls, and trying to force them to make the mistakes is the aim.
Goal number 2 is found in our serving. We'd like to serve strong at the line to put them in a difficult position to run their full offence. By doing so, we hope that it'll go hand in hand with our blocking and defence system, and make that easier for our middles to identify where the ball is being set. We know that it won't be an easy game for Degerfors, but achieving these smaller goals will be a win for us.
So until then, the team will continue working hard on these few elements, (among others!) and we hope to have everyone's support as we enter into this amazing new opportunity playing in Sweden's Eliteseries! Tack alla för supporten!!

First Eliteseries experience a positive one!

Today Degerfors faced last years Swedish champions Engelholm, and what a game it was! As anticipated, the team did not come out victorious. However the outcome was more than positive. Not only did the girls achieve the goals set before the game, they surpassed them largely and surprised even ourselves!
Defence and tough serving were our main strategies. Lillemor Ingebrand, the team's captain, set the tone in the first few points with some really great defensive digs. She continued to do so throughout the three sets.
The team's positive attitude frustrated Engelholm which was evident in the second set. The Degerfors girls started serving a bit tougher and putting more pressure on their reception. Engelholm started making their own errors, and Degerfors managed to lead the set for the majority of the time. The blocking picked up, and the girls found themselves with a score of 20-20 against the former champs. Unfortunately with a few needless rotation mistakes and serving errors, the set got away from us. However for a brief moment - the ex-champs were scared.
In the third set, the team encountered some very tough float serving from Engelholm and weren't able to find the momentum they originally had. But despite the disappointing end to the game, the team truly held their own and made a great first impression into the Swedish Eliteseries. Now that we have seen what we are capable of doing, there is only going up from here. Moving forward, the team will train a lot of serving and reception as this proved to be where the bulk of our problems lay today.
The team looks forward to having all of your support as we face Linköpings next weekend for our first home game Sunday at Stora vallahallen at 15:00.
